Do I need a referral for Trigenics?

A referral is not necessary by your Medical Doctor to attend our clinic for a Trigenics Neurokinetic examination. We do receive many referrals form Medical Specialists for this new method of treatment. With your permission we will provide your Medical Doctor with a report of our initial assessment and findings. Many Doctors like this service because it keeps them informed of what you are doing with your health.

What can I expect on my first appointment with Dr. Plotnikoff?

Our first visit will involve a thorough history, a neurokinetic examination, which involves muscle testing for weak and tight muscles. This is followed by a discussion of your diagnosis and then a review of the possible treatments that will help your condition. Treatment is provided on your first visit unless further tests must be done. A small number of patient' will require X-rays or further diagnostic tests (i.e. ultrasound, MRI, CT scan, Bone scans, etc) to identify more serious pathologies such as tendon tears, ligament tears, disc herniations, stress fractures, etc., These tests are at times important for diagnosis and for your safety. The typical initial assessment can take anywhere for 45-60 minutes, depending on your condition(s).

What should I wear to my initial assessment?

We suggest that you bring comfortable clothing to wear, such as a pair of shorts or jogging pants, and a comfortable T-shirt. Dr. Plotnikoff does not recommend wearing business attire, tight fitting jeans, or jewelry. This ensures that a proper assessment will be achieved in a comfortable matter.

          Do you take X-Rays?

The majority of patients that come to Dr. Plotnikoff' office do require X-rays to ensure your safety prior to treatment. It has been his experience with practice that many unforeseen conditions are revealed with X-rays. The need for X-rays is always discussed first with the patient before proceeding. In addition if further diagnostic studies are required such as Bone Scans, MRI, and/or Ultrasound this will be arranged through Dr. Plotnikoff' office. Our office refers patients to Radiology Consultants Associated in our building and all procedures are covered by Alberta Health Care.

Once I start treatments with Dr. Plotnikoff do I always have to go?

A very common concern heard too frequently by Dr. Plotnikoff and the answer is always NO! Patients are always involved with their treatment plans. Dr. Plotnikoff spends a great deal of time educating his patients on the importance of regular check-ups, but in the end it is always your decision on how you decide to utilize Chiropractic in your lifestyle. Whether you decide to choose Chiropractic care or not it' your decision. If you understand the importance of regular flossing, brushing of your teeth, and dental examinations than you should understand the importance of regular spinal examinations. In the end it is your health, your back, your decision to continue or not.
